 Jean Marseille is a huge supporter of Senator Barack Obama, however it was Senator Obama’s message of hope and change that really struck a cord with Marseille. Marseille believed it was Sen. Obama’s message that led him to want to volunteer with a group of 1199er’s and travel to Columbus, Ohio to help with the Get Out the Vote (GOTV) operation. Marseille has worked at Ros Common in Boston, MA for the last 20 years and is not a stranger to hard work yet, says the work during GOTV was nothing but grueling. “We knocked on thousands of doors. My purpose was to energize folks to the level I am. The days were long, and the weather was bad, but it was definitely worth it.” Merseille and hundreds of 1199er’s traveled to all across the country assisting in canvassing efforts. When asked what was the most memorable moment during GOTV, Marseille responded, “it would definitely be those folks who said they had never voted in their life; but Sen. Obama motivated them to go out and register to vote.” Marseille would love to continue volunteering through 1199 in future primaries/caucuses such as the upcoming Pennsylvania primary and would like to encourage other 1199ers to do the same.
