1199SEIU African American Caucus Hosts Black History Celebration

On Saturday, February 22, 2010, 1199SEIU’s African American Caucus celebrated Black history month by hosting a gathering at the union hall in Dorchester.
More than 100 people attended the event. Guests were treated to a free dinner, speeches from AFRAM leaders, a retrospective celebrating Black pioneers, and live musical acts.
Tickets to the event were $5 and the event was able to raise $1200, with all proceeds going to the Haitian Caucus to support relief efforts in Haiti. AFRAM was able to raise more than $200 for its own caucus.
"It was excellent. It was a family night where all races came together as one," said Leslie Stafford, a union member at Boston Medical Center who wrote the night's featured speech.
“It was a successful event. The donations we raised for the Haitian Caucus was a good amount. This year, we wanted to do this for the people of Haiti. Thanks to all the AFRAM members for pulling this together,” said Keila Price, the president of AFRAM in Massachusetts.
